This is a sample application of a freestyle app. Traditional ones are pretty self explanatory. Note that this is a teacher's application so it won't be quite as detailed as we expect students' to be since they will be primarily what is role played. You will also find this in the Hogwarts Staff section of the accepted board.

"Why? Were you expecting someone else? Perhaps older, uglier, and maybe more terrible? I know I'm not hideous but I can certainly be terrible. Another thing is that I prefer to referred to by my first name, Marie when there are no students around. I don't want to feel completely tied to my family name."
WELL WHAT ARE YOU QUALIFICATIONS? MAYBE YOU CAN TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF?
"Well I won't say I expected to be applying for this job. My parents sent me to Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts so we might as well say that I have much more knowledge of the dark arts than most of your other applicants. After schooling I trained as an auror for two years but I didn't like the field work. Lately there isn't much happening. It is much too peaceful. And who else to get students' attention then a young, attractive teacher? Don't you agree?
I'm sure you want some knowledge of how I grew up. My parents were deatheaters, and both were very strict, hence why they sent me to Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts. It wasn't horrible though. I had friends at Durmstrang and my adorable house-elf kept me company while I was at home. I believe I was rather rude to her as a child but I was spoiled rich, what more can you expect? It didn't help being around other kids that had money to throw. But that's really all there is to my life. I'm so young that there is much more to live for, even as I knowingly coup myself up in a large castle for most of the year."
I SEE. THIS SPOT HAS BEEN HARD TO FILL, EVEN WITH YOU-KNOW-WHO GONE. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE IT?
"I'm twenty years old. I plan on holding this spot for at least the next seven years. At least until I start to get old and wrinkled. You can only uphold a certain image for so long. Hopefully that will be for much longer than seven years. As for handling it. I don't know how a bunch of students from ages eleven to eighteen could be much trouble, and even if they are I'm sure I can put a stop to it. At Durmstrang punishment was often being transfigured into an animal for a day or set up to be embarrassed in someway. I understand harming the students in that way is not tolerable here but I'm sure I could find...acceptable means of punishment."
PERHAPS YOU WILL EVEN BE DEPUTY HEADMISTRESS ONE DAY. MY FINAL QUESTION IS WHERE YOUR ALLEGIANCE STANDS?
"I know I seem like I would be in the center ring with this new dark wizard who is on the rise but I would much rather fight for the Order of the Phoenix. I don't think muggleborns really stole magic. That is just an old wives tale that has been take far out of context. If they play their cards right, down the line they could be the ancestors of a pureblood family anyway. I had a childhood friend who was a muggleborn. Of course I never saw her again after my parents found out, but parents never know what is best. I make my own decisions and speak my own voice.
At the same time I don't promise to be a muggle lover. That's why I stand by the Order of the Phoenix. Things worked rather well before these wars ravaged the magical community. There may have been some dark wizards here and there but they were put a stop to. Fear can often be necessary for life. It brings improvement because we strive to be secure. I don't know a single witch who doesn't work to have spare change in her pocket for her family. They fear not being able to afford what is necessary for life. Keyword being they fear, and so they strive for that security."
WITH THAT IN MIND, WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING STRATEGIES?
"Now that I think of it, I guess it would be similar to what I previously stated. The students who fear failure I will have no problem, but I am sure I can drive the tiniest fear of these...dark souls? into the brains of my students just enough that they will want to know how to defend themselves. I don't, however, plan on letting them imagine that this is another dark lord on the rise. Small fears work wonders. Perhaps one of my first lesson will be on boggarts so I find out their individual fears. That could work wonders.
WE WILL DISCUSS YOUR TEACHING PLANS, BUT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU IN THE FALL.
"I suppose that means I got the job. I appreciate it. I will have the students of this school eating out of the palm of my hand soon. --And by that I simply mean that I plan on having little trouble with my role as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. You can count on that."
