Marie Lei Sinclair. Professor Marie. Deputy Headmistress Sinclair. They all had an excellent ring to them. A good teacher has a good name, no. An interesting name, something that can roll off the tongue and is easily thought of. Interest in a simple name creates interest in a teacher, and interest in a teacher leads to interest in the class, and that means successful students. Of course being attractive, and a crush-able teacher helped plenty.
Miss Marie Sinclair sat, one leg crossed over the other, on a large leather love seat in the Hogwarts Staff room. Today was September first and in a few mere hours there would be students flooding the halls of the enormous castle once again. It was a rather exciting day, finishing preparations for classes, making sure all the food was being cooked correctly, getting all the ghosts and poltergeists in check. She was finally able to relax at the small 'new school year' party that was thrown every year a few hours before the students arrived.
Marie swirled the wine in her glass, before taking a sip. She glanced around the room. It was about time Sarah, the Headmistress had gotten there to make her usual beginning-of-the-year speech. Marie supposed she was still finishing her own preparations and making sure everything was in check. No monsters, no ghouls, nothing that turn this magnificent night into a disaster.
Uncrossing her legs, she smooth out her skirt and checked to make sure her jewelry and shirt were in place beneath her dark robes. She had tied her hair loosely to one side and adorned black, high-heeled, ankle boots. She always loved making an impression on the first years. Most of them had only heard stories of the staff that had been working at Hogwarts during Harry Potter's years, but now there was a new and much younger staff and they always seemed to be in awe. She was rather devilish in that way, but she didn't care. She still looked professional, just a younger and more attractive kind of professional. She would never hide herself behind hideous, floor-length dresses. That was simply not the Sinclair way.

across the universe, images of broken light, which dance before me like a million eyes. they call me on and on across the universe. thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box, they tumble blindly as they make their way.... nothing's gonna change my world, After finishing his last year at Hogwarts, the last thing Theodore Lupin had expected was to ever be going back to the school. It wasn’t because he hadn’t loved the place, no, he was pretty sure it was impossible to not love Hogwarts. However, the young metamorphmagus had been convinced that whatever life may bring, it would have nothing to do with returning to Hogwarts. It had turned out that he was completely wrong in thinking that.
He had spent his time after Hogwarts working at the Ministry, as part of the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad. Considering Teddy had seemed to have inherited his father’s brains and skill when it came to magic, the job suited him quite well. He seemed to do a wonderful job of helping to reverse the effects of the magic cast by underage wizards. However, it soon became clear that the job really wasn’t one he wanted to do for the rest of his life. It didn’t help when he had his breakup with Victorie Weasley either. At that point, he just hadn’t been able to tolerate it any longer and had been forced to quit in order to take some time away from it all.
It was a little over a year later that the position for Charms professor at Hogwarts opened up and, after some encouragement from his godfather and grandmother, Teddy had decided to apply for the job. Despite his young age, he was a rather bright wizard and Charms seemed to be the area he excelled in the most. Teaching it would be fun, and he was sure it would be learning just as much as the students were. So he applied and, surprisingly, was given the job.
This brought him to the present moment. He had spent most of the last month at the castle, doing all he could to prepare for his first year as a teacher. Now September 1st was here and, in a few hours, the many students would be arriving at the castle. He had thought it would be no big deal, but now that the day was actually here, he was beyond nervous. In fact, he was having a hard time keeping his normally-sandy colored hair from changing colors. It seemed to be a disadvantage to his abilities. Normally he was good at controlling his emotions and metamorphmagus powers, but nerves seemed to be getting the better of him today. His hair kept shifting to a green color, much to the new professor’s distaste. He could only imagine how bad it was going to be when the time came for his first class….
Still, he was confident that he would get over the nerves and this would end up being an enjoyable experience. From what Harry had told him, his father had quite enjoyed the time he spent teaching at Hogwarts. He was quite relaxed at the current moment, allowing him to maintain his natural looks. He was just over six feet tall, barely at 6’1”. With his sandy colored hair and sparkling blue eyes, it seemed Teddy Lupin hardly needed to be able to change his appearance in order to look good.
Dressed in a pair of navy blue robes (he had to look sharp for the feast tonight, after all), the twenty-five year old was on his way to the staffroom. Apparently there was supposed to be some gathering of the other professors or something before the students arrived. He would be lying if he were to say he didn’t feel out of place going to it. This whole ‘Professor Lupin’ thing was going to take some serious getting used to.
He entered into the room, finding only Deputy Headmistress in the room. Was he really that early? His hand flew through his hair in an almost nervous matter, though he was determined to appear at ease with the whole thing. ”Ah, hello Professor Sinclair,”he greeted respectfully, stepping more into the room. ”I’m not that early, am I?” he questioned, the slightest trace of a grin tugging at his lips as he spoke.

Today was the first day of school, and what a day it would be. She loved the first day of school, always had, it meant that she would be meeting new people, making new friends, and having the time of her life while she did it. Of course, that was when she was a student. Today, it meant that she would be in charge of the safety of over two hundred students. It meant that she would be responsible for the entirety of the school, and that both scared and excited the young woman.
She fixed her long blond hair into a ponytail, and straightened her black dress in the mirror of her office. She had to look her best today, first impressions were everything. Then she remembered about meeting with her colleagues. She ran her finger across her lip and in a moment, hot red lipstick covered her lips. Sarah grinned, she loved magic. She glanced at her feet, what to wear oh what to wear. She glanced towards her closet and flicked her fingers. Within seconds, her red heels were down by her feet. She stepped in and strapped them up. With a larger smile on her face, she was ready.
Sarah headed out of her office, and down towards the staff lounge. She was going to talk to her lovely staff members about how they were going to make the day the best day, and how to make the year an amazing one. She didn't really have anything planned, like usual she was going to wing it.
She pushed open the door to the lounge, just in time to hear Teddy Lupin asking if he was early. She grinned at him and shook her head, "No, you are right on time."
Sarah walked over to the coffee pot that the house elves had set up earlier. She poured herself a cup of it, and took a sip before she went to sit down beside Marie. "How are you both? Excited for the start of year?" She asked curiously glancing at both her staff members. Then her eyes wandered to the clock on the wall, everyone else should be there soon. She smiled and looked back at Teddy, and then at Marie.

Marie smiled, but there was slight sarcasm in the corners of her mouth and squint of her eyes. She didn't prefer to be called Professor Sinclair, much less by her own colleagues. But she supposed Theodore Lupin was not used to the idea of not being a student at Hogwarts when he came to this castle again. She had never attended the school herself, so she did not have that little issue.
"Please call me Marie. I was only your teacher for your last year at Hogwarts, and we are now colleagues. We can be a little more informal." She took another sip of wine from her glass. The headmistress, Sarah Locke, strutted in behind him. She wore a black dress and bright red heels that seemed to glow brighter in the dark interior of the castle. Marie pursed her lips. It was a tad odd how all of the professors seemed to just get younger and younger, but she doubted the students were complaining about having to attend a school full of attractive teachers.
"I'm excellent Sarah. I have everything set and figured out for how I'm going to torture --oh!" She put her hand up to her mouth jokingly as if she had said something she should not have. Her sarcastic smile was back as she continued, "I mean teach, my students." She raised an eyebrow as she added, "And you?"
Of course the Headmistress did not teach classes, but she was in charge of the whole castle and everyone in it. That was a job far harder than teaching a few hundred students, and Marie was her right hand in that role. She was deputy headmistress. If something was to happen to Sarah, Marie had to step in and get everything under control, so naturally Marie tried to help Sarah out as much as possible so that she knew exactly how to handle the school if something were to happen, especially with all the darkness that was brewing in the wizarding world.
She turned back to Teddy Lupin. "I hope you're not nervous Theodore." Marie stared at the ground, another bitter smile on her face from the memories of her first day. It went as perfect as she could imagine. She strutted into each of her classes, and as whispers and talking began she slammed down her books which in turn seemed to lay down the law for her students and immediately began her lesson. After a while she was able to set a bar that was both friendly and strict at the same time. She didn't tolerate interruptions or failures, but still tried to place nice. "My first day of teaching went rather well, I'd say."

across the universe, images of broken light, which dance before me like a million eyes. they call me on and on across the universe. thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box, they tumble blindly as they make their way.... nothing's gonna change my world, A sheepish grin appeared on Teddy’s face, and he rubbed the back of his neck somewhat nervously at Marie’s words. ”Right, sorry. Old habits die hard, I suppose,” the young man apologized. Despite the fact that he was now a professor, he was still one of the youngest (and definitely the least experienced). He had honestly thought it would be expected of him to address his coworkers in a more formal matter. ”I’m still trying to get my head wrapped around all of this,” he added, letting out a quiet sigh. Hopefully he wouldn’t end up being a total failure at this whole thing. Still, he was confident that he would do just fine once he got the hang of things.
He took a step over to where the refreshments were, deciding that a glass of wine or two might be a good thing for him. While he didn’t want to get drunk by any means (imagine how embarrassing that would be later on), he could definitely use something to help him relax a little. He turned his head as another person entered the room, giving a dip of his head in greeting to the Headmistress. ”I’m doing well enough so far,” he informed her, the slightest trace of amusement flickering through his blue eyes as he realized how quickly all of that could change. ”I’m not sure you could say ‘excited’ is the right word…but I’m ready. Ready as I’ll ever be,” he admitted honestly.
Of course, Harry had told him all about the year his father was the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. To this day, his godfather claimed Remus was the best one they’d had (and apparently he’d had quite a few during his time at Hogwarts). Teddy was hoping he would be able to have a similar effect on the students. He would like to think it wouldn’t be too difficult. He liked to believe he was a pretty likeable person, after all. He wanted to be a fun professor, but not a total pushover. As long as he didn’t hand out detentions every five minutes and spend the class periods droning on and on, surely he would be okay?
He snapped out of his musings at Marie’s words, his brow furrowing for a moment. ”Please, call me Ted or Teddy. Only my grandmother calls me Theodore and it’s not usually a good thing when that happens,” he chuckled. He was in fact quite nervous about the whole thing, but he didn’t feel inclined to admit it, if only to impress the two women in front of him. ”Perhaps slightly nervous, but I’m sure once I get the hang of things it will be just fine. You just have to forget the nerves and just go for it, you know?” he said with a light shrug of his shoulders. He had to establish some sort of confidence. If he acted nervous or had negative thinking about the whole thing, the students would eat him alive. He could do this. He was a Lupin, after all.

Teaching. She was a bit nervous and had a case of butterflies bouncing around in her stomach. Would she do any good? Could she even teach students only being a student not that long ago? It would also be strange being on the same level as some of her old teachers after all she would no longer be their student but their equal. Quickly she went over to her closet and pulled out a black dress, it was the prefect dress for work it still showed off her curves like any Veela would like yet it didn’t show off anything that wasn’t appropriate to have on in front of students. She dabbed on a little makeup and hurried out her door grabbing her teacher robes off the hook… she didn’t want to be late for the first Staff meeting that would leave a bad impression.
Her black shoes clicked on the stone floor, one arm after the other Torie put her teaching robe on raching behind her to grab her hair and pull it out from under the robe. She dropped her hair letting it fall naturally to the mid of her back a slight curl showed it’s self in her sun kissed blond hair. Soon these halls would be filled with her students, the thought excited her and terrified her at the same time… she was now a teacher here a sign of authority and respect.
Pushing open the door she made her way into the room it was time to meet her co-workers for the first time. Her eyes first fell on the headmistress and deputy headmistress, she was thankful to both that she had been hired here. A smile formed on her lips as she continued to look around the room, her eyes fell on someone who just made her heart sink and smile to be wiped from her face…Teddy… Teddy Lupin the love of her life… the love who she had recently left. She still loved him but they were broken up… maybe for good if Teddy didn’t change. The two hadn’t really talked since their break-up and Torie had hoped that this job would keep her mind off the break-up… so much for that happening.
“Sorry I’m late”

across the universe, images of broken light, which dance before me like a million eyes. they call me on and on across the universe. thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box, they tumble blindly as they make their way.... nothing's gonna change my world, Teddy had heard the door open once again, and turned to greet whoever had entered the room. He was fairly certain that he had met most of the staff by now, so he was expecting a semi-familiar face. What he ended up seeing, caused his jaw to drop. Victorie Weasley. The woman he had thought (and maybe still did) he loved. What in the name of Merlin was she doing here anyways? He hadn’t seen her in a while now…
The young professor was so shocked by Victorie’s appearance, that even his own appearance was changed by it. His hair shifted from its normal, sandy-color to a light shade of blue. Yes, he was definitely speechless. He just sort of stood there, looking like a fish out of water, for several moments as he fought to regain his composure. Out of all the things he had thought might happen with his new job, this had never been one of them. What had he done to deserve this form of hell?
Slowly, his hair returned to normal color and he managed to appear cool and collected once more. ”Victorie? What in Merlin’s name are you doing here?” he asked, still sounding slightly shocked. He refused to even consider the possibility that she might be a teacher at the school…even though it was the obvious reason. This was supposed to be a good time for him. He was going to find his element and a job that he could enjoy for the rest of his life. There was no way she could be here as a teacher. It would make things so complicated and awkward. He had just barely been able to, mostly, put all of this behind him. He wasn’t very keen on the idea of starting from square one again.
Yes, Teddy was definitely shocked and nervous now…not to mention hurt. Seeing her standing there, looking as strikingly gorgeous as ever, was bringing back all of the feelings and emotions that he had been working so hard to bury and forget. Part of him wanted to be angry at her for even showing up. Then there was a part of her, a part that he was really trying to keep buried, that was actually kind of happy to see her. ”Bloody hell, this is going to be a long year,” he mumbled to himself, seeming to be putting two and two together and realizing that Victorie was, in fact, a member of the Hogwarts Staff. This was going to be very awkward. tag || Hogwarts Staff || words || 422 || outfit || click ! notes || hello. these are notes |

"You know?"
The words echoed around Marie's head. Of course she knew that, though she herself would change it from 'just going for it' to 'just taking it'. A subtle difference but it was more than one could think. Going for it was accepting failure if it came your way. Taking it was not giving up until you succeeded. She would never accept any kind of failure.
"Yes, Theodore." She replied, ignoring his wishes to be called Teddy. She preferred using a person's full first name. Nicknames were inappropriate to her. It made it seem like their name was unappreciated, when it was something picked especially for an individual. Marie always felt that acceptance of your name was acceptance of yourself. An odd theory, but one that she lived by.
As the second new employee made her way into the room, Marie's eyebrow raised. She had known the two would be working here since they were hired. Of course she did, but what was meant was that she knew of the recent break up between Victorie and Theodore and still pushed for them both to be hired. They were both a brilliant wizard and witch.
Marie stifled a wretched laugh as Theodore muttered about the year being long. She felt slightly more evil than usual at that moment seeing as the two were able to avoid running into each other while coming to the castle to prepare the classes and classroom. She had talked to both several times, yet never felt the decency to say that the other was working there. She supposed she just wanted something interesting to happen this year, and though it would have still happened had they realized earlier, building it up to this point was all the sweeter. So yes, she was certainly some kind of evil.
Marie turned to Victorie after shaking off her dark thoughts. "You really aren't late." She motioned to the emptiness of the room. There were only four people there at current, out of the ten plus employees there actually were. Even old Mr. Binns wasn't there and he usually was the first in the room. "Have a drink, or coffee. Whichever you please. There will most likely be more to be had at dinner so I would not advise on having to much." Her mouth curled into her usual sarcastic smile.
